MHSRA Executive Director Rick Harnish speaks at a rally for transit funding

Who we are

The Transit Riders' Alliance is a project of the Midwest High Speed Rail Association, a member supported non-profit advocating for fast, frequent and dependable trains linking the entire Midwest.

We are working to unite local transit riders, railroad passengers and intercity bus riders into a group powerful enough to change transportation policy at both the state and federal levels.

Our goal is an aggressive program to expand and enhance transit throughout Illinois, with better buses, faster trains and more universal coverage.

Recently, our SaveChicagolandTransit.com campaign helped more than 34,000 people send over 250,000 emails or faxes to their elected officials demanding increased operating funding for transit throughout the State of Illinois.  Those messages made a clear impact in the successful fight to maintain the existing level of service.

Now, we are building on that foundation to develop, with your input, a new vision for what transit should be.  We will sell that vision to policy makers and persuade them to make the vision a reality.
