Light rail lines are less expensive and carry more people than new highways.

Our Vision

An Overview

The economy is changing quickly and our transportation system must change quickly too.

We need an aggressive program to expand and enhance transit service throughout Illinois.

Our existing network provides a strong foundation, but we need faster buses and trains, new routes into underserved areas and better coordination between service providers.

The State of Illinois should set two related goals:

  • It should be possible to travel easily within all urban and suburban areas without a car, whether for work or personal trips.
  • All state residents should have a practical connection to Downtown Chicago, O'Hare and Midway airports and Springfield.

Achieving these goals will support an economy able to compete in the world marketplace and deal with soaring oil prices.

It will take a serious financial and political commitment, but what is the alternative?  Without world-class transit, our cost-of living will continue to skyrocket, unserved communities will continue to lose value and major employers will choose to locate in other, more transit friendly environs.

The following principals should be applied statewide.

  1. A Statewide Solution
  2. Low-cost, High-Value Enhancements
  3. Begin with Better Buses
  4. Bring Back the Streetcars
  5. A Bigger Role for Metra
  6. New Intercity Connections
